Everything about Dutch Euro Coins totally explainedDutch euro coins have two designs by Bruno Ninaber van Eyben, both of which feature a portrait or effigy of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. All coins share the 12 stars of the EU and the year of imprint in their design.
As in Finland, most of the Dutch shops have decided not to issue one and two cent coins starting from September 1, 2004. The coins remain legal tender, but are no longer issued in most of the shops. Sums are rounded to the nearest €0.05; hence sums ending in €0.01, €0.02, €0.06 or €0.07 are rounded down, and those ending in €0.03, €0.04, €0.08 or €0.09 are rounded up. The rounding is applied to the grand total only, while individual prices are still shown and summed up with €0.01 precision. This method is known as " Swedish rounding".

Collector coins
Besides the common series depicted above, the Dutch Bank has also circulated collector coins of €5 or €10 denomination. The coins are legal tender only in the Netherlands and not in the rest of the EU. The coins are however rarely seen as practically all go into coin collections. Of several of the coins silver or gold collectors versions have been minted (which were distributed at a higher price than denomination).
